The project was initially titled Varmaa and was to be directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Bala. Filming was completed between March and September 2018. However, due to creative differences between the director and the producer, Mukesh Mehta of E4 Entertainment, the decision was made to scrap the original version entirely. The project was relaunched with a new director, debutant Gireesaaya, a new cast, and a new title, Adithya Varma . Only the film's lead, Dhruv Vikram (making his acting debut), and its music composer, Radhan, were retained from the original production.
